Famous faces and infamous brands where brought to the forefront of fashion at MAGIC International in Las Vegas, showcasing the fresh look of the 2008 spring season, setting the pace for designers around the fashion world. MAGIC has two shows a year in Las Vegas. The February and August shows are ranked fifth and sixth, in the Tradeshow Week 200 list of North America's largest trade shows. From the skate lifestyle of Famous Stars and Straps, to the urban feel of L-R-G Lifestyle, manufacturers from all over the globe attended this highly anticipated and long awaited event. The four-day sourcing affair lived up to its name of being one of the most influential and recognizable events in the fashion industry.LL Cool J, Paris Hilton, and Jay-Z were just a few of the faces that were in attendance.

Runway shows took front stage at the entrance of the convention center, where MAGIC's premier clothing lines were on exhibit on the catwalk.

Some new hopefuls and familiar faces made their way to the MAGIC Show this year, where Cubico Media found the creator of Joker Brand, Mister Cartoon.

Tattoo artist made designer, Mister Cartoon explained the philosophy behind Joker Brand and the importance of maintaining the same street style it had five years ago. The highly sought after tattoo artist revealed to us which Hollywood stars will be carrying his ink this year and a brief summary of his novel that is soon to be released, The Lost Angel. The modest Cartoon credited his huge success to his work in the community and the outreach he does with children.

Live Mechanics sells more than just hip new clothes, but a philosophy of life for the global consumer. Osa, the creator behind the brand shared with us his hopes to inspire others to make a change in their community through the personal expression of clothing. Live Mechanic fans can expect to see the women's line soon, projected for Winter 2008. The inspirational designer explained to Cubico the philosophy behind Live Mechanics and the importance of the motto "Passion, Pain, and Progress" and why his clothing line goes beyond just fashion.

Although many people associate the name Lexani with 22 inch chrome rims, it is more recently their clothing collection that has taken recognition. Carlos, the man behind the brand, explains to Cubico Media how the style of Lexani refuses to fit in a box, but is rather a blend of different cultures. Carlos explains that, "we do not categorize ourselves as anything, we are not just one brand that serves just one group." Lexani carries shoes, denim, hats, and much more and is available for purchase at lexanilifestyle.com.

MAGIC provides hopeful designers with the chance to showcase their talent and capture the attention of potential buyers. It takes more than a famous face to create a successful brand. All of the established brands have invested a great deal of time, energy and passion and have the credibility to prove it. Cubico Media has seen many new brands come and go over the years, but the one's that stay have incredible determination, in the words of Osa from Live Mechanics, "it takes pain and passion, to get to the progress." -Kelli Franke

Estevan Oriol and UNDFTD Mix It Up For Adidas in "1979"
Wednesday, 05 March 2008
Cubico Meda had the privilege of attending the UNDFTD x Adidas x Estevan Oriol "1979" Release Party in the heart of downtown L.A. last weekend. This highly anticipated collaboration showcased UNDFTD x Adidas Top Ten along with a look at street ball through the lens of the much-admired and acclaimed photographer, Estevan Oriol in the book titled "1979."

With the successful display in Barcelona, Spain just weeks before, guests had come from all different corners and cultures of L.A. just to catch a glimpse at the $450 a pair sneakers and the breath taking artwork of Oriol. These life size photographs stole the attention of many in attendance, simply for the undeniable emotion that his work captures in just one snap. Oriol has photographed celebrities such as Travis Barker, Dennis Hopper, Kim Kardashin, Kanye West and many more. This will be one of many books yet to come from Oriol, with a one on the way that will capture the last ten years of Mister Cartoon, one of the most sought after tattoo artists in the word.

This collaboration of artistic minds surely did Adidas' Top Ten justice and was impressive behind the glass display cases by all that walked by. The sneakers and book grabbed the attention of many guests including Mina Sevary, The Soul Assassins, Mister Cartoon, Danny Trejo and many others. The style of UNDFTD and Adidas comes through this beautifully crafted tribute to street ball. UNDFTD's logo can be found on the laces and the hardback book "1979" which carefully secured to the top of the display.

Only 650 pairs of these already exclusive shoes will be released on February 2nd and can be found in stores like Limited Edition and UNDFTD, but this shoe/book combo will be most likely sold to only special accounts. To find more information on this very limited collection check out www.undfd.com, and for more photos from Estevan Oriol check out his website at www.estevanoriol.com -Kelli Franke
